The Helper Within Distraction
If we haven't admitted it yet, let's do so now...
God is a cool guy.
He's the kind of cool that takes care of us when we are emotionally spent, the kind of cool that understands everything that we long to "get".
He's the kind of cool that takes us into places that we've never been, the kind of cool that chooses us in spite of better friends.
He's a cool guy.
And I think that has been sadly forgotten or just overlooked.
As I sit in a coffee shop, where I came to spend time with the Lord, there are many things that I realize that pull for my attention.
After overcoming the draw to be on my phone, this world in its essence calls out in a multitude of ways.
The people and their conversations, the smell of baked goods, the colors of the wood and furniture, the sound of staticky tunes...
My senses are overloaded with data and being with God, like I hoped, seems so far off now.
The cool thing about God is that He doesn't put us in the world, ask us to be intimate with Him, and not provide a way for us to accomplish this.
The Holy Spirit is BRILLIANT in who He is. John 14:26 tells us about how He is our Helper. So when we enter the opportunity for distraction, the Holy Spirit knows so well how to help us meet with Jesus.
Don't get me wrong, distraction is real, but it doesn't have to overtake us. Without the Holy Spirit, I believe it is impossible to have the self-control and patience within us to meet with Jesus.
Living a life of excellence is impossible without the Holy Spirit. He is who strengthens us and gives us the ability to close our eyes and set ourselves a part from distraction. He allows us to enter into the quiet place where revelation lies and our minds are fixed on Jesus... that place where every other thing falls at the wayside.
So when distraction seems large and your time with Jesus seems misplaced, take the step to enter in. The Holy Spirit meets you there, He won't let your time with Jesus be taken advantage of by the world.
He loves being the Helper and He loves overcoming the world through your intimacy with Him.
